Final Piece

During the priming stage of preparing the studios we encountered a difficulty with the wall I had been assigned: some oil based material could not be painted over with the water based primer we were using. After a trip to the hardware store in Camberwell, I managed to cover up these lines so I could continue to prime and sand, ensuring that the surface I was going to draw onto would be as smooth as possible.

This first drawing is a body drawing - these drawings show how I have built up layers of pencil drawing to create the effect I wanted.

As my drawing continues and I begin drawing flowers, I have wanted to intertwine the lines of the flowers and of the bodies. I have allowed the lines of the edges of body drawings to melt into the beginning of a petal or a stem, as though they are connected like a network of veins.

This is my final piece; I really like how strange it looks. I have tried extremely hard to keep a sense of balance and composition for the overall piece, even though it is a series of drawings.

These are the pieces which surround my final piece: I think that the hanging resin installation will look brilliant next to my piece - it is set back into an alcove so the pieces won't be battling for precedence. Equally, both are monochromatic, so my piece won't fade into the background against any bright colours. The piece to the left is set back from my piece, so even though there is some bright colour in this  painting, it shouldn't interfere with the viewing of my drawing.
